About Brendan Brazier

Brendan Brazier is one of only a few professional athletes in the world whose diet is 100 percent plant-based. He’s a professional Ironman triathlete, bestselling author on performance nutrition, and the creator of an award-winning line of whole food nutritional products called Vega. He is also a two-time Canadian 50km Ultra Marathon Champion.

    Thrive is a comprehensive guide on how to eat for better health and improved athletic performance. Brazier stresses a diet based on whole foods, and includes recipes in the back of his book. I especially enjoy the smoothie, salad, and energy bar recipes. The section on homemade sports foods is also very useful, providing recipes for your own sports drinks, gels, bars, and puddings. Note that you’ll need a good blender to make a lot of the recipes in the book.

    The one part I found to be lacking was scientific evidence to back up the claims he makes. While most of it is in line with other reading I’ve done on nutrition, I would have preferred he provide evidence to support some of his statements.

    That said, Thrive is a great book, especially for athletes who are looking to eat as natural as possible and get the most out of their diets!
