TRANSCRIPT
Hello everybody, welcome back to the channel. Today we have not just Giacomo, but we also
have Coach Alice and Coach Ben, and we are going to be trying about a dozen different vegan
protein cereals and ranking them based on taste, macros, and price. Is there anything else we
should rank them on? Price and kind of convenience, maybe how easy they are to find, can you
order them online, or are they in your local store, but that’s pretty much it.
Giacomo is going to be in charge of where we start. I am the cereal gatekeeper. This is Danny’s
OG.
How long have you been having this for consistently? Every day for breakfast? How long has it
been now, Danny? I don’t know, two years. Two years? Maybe longer, I don’t know. It is the best
flavor, tried and true.
So are you guys almond milk or soy milk people? Almond all the way. For cereal, I’m usually
almond. Everything else, I’m soy, but I could go either way.
I like the same, soy. Okay. This makes the best stuff, the best tasting stuff, the best macro stuff.
So as Ben pointed out earlier, this formula, oops, that’s way too much. This formula used to be
a bit different. They changed something about it, and now it’s got less protein than it used to
have.
I will go over the macros for this one. So 190 calories, three grams of fat, which is pretty low. I
mean, cereals are going to be on the lower side.
I should say we also have kind of like oatmeal and granola that’s in the realm of cereal, but
maybe not quite cereal. And I picked up anything that had the brand or label protein on it. So
you’re going to see some of them actually are higher in protein as we would define it, and some
are a little bit lower.
And so we’ll kind of give you our thoughts on, should it actually be called a protein product or
not? 190 calories, three grams of fat, 38 grams of carbohydrate. Of note, there is nine grams of
fiber, so it’s a little bit higher compared to other cereals, and nine grams of protein. So 190
calories, nine grams of protein.
Okay. I mean, it’s decent compared to like non-protein cereals. But when I have this in the
morning, as you all know, I put the edamame puffs on them as well.
I like how I’m trying this, like I haven’t eaten in like seven minutes. What will it taste like? This
tastes like Danny’s breakfast cereal that I get to steal every once in a while. It’s been a while.
I haven’t had it since they reformulated. So I actually remember there used to be those little like
little sticks in there. Do you remember those, the little like stick puffs? Are they still in there ordo they take them out? They have them in the Kashi original, like their original formula, which
was all that they had for years and years, but it’s got honey in it.
But they do still have them. I think I’m the only one. This is my first time trying this.
That’s pretty good. And I think they added puffed rice. I don’t remember that being in there
before.
Anyways. Yeah. It’s definitely puffier than it used to be.
And like bigger clumps than it used to be and less protein than it used to have, but I’m a
creature of habit, so. The taste is still very solid. Yeah.
100%. Who knows? Maybe at the end of this video, I’ll have a new, new cereal for the next two
years. Oh, how much was it, Giacomo? Kashi Go Cinnamon Crunch Protein and Fiber is $4.99.
And I should say, I got all of these at Wegmans, which is a Northeast grocery chain that has a
lot of options, which is why I was able to find all of these.
He found all of these in one store. That’s crazy to me. That’s insane.
I think most of these products we’re going to be trying today, though, you could probably buy
online if I had to guess. These days, at least. As we get to them, I’ll tell you the ones I have the
most challenging finding.
Yeah. This is one I can find pretty much anywhere in the country, so I do like it for that. Okay.
So which tier do we think this should go in? So $5, I feel like, is probably pretty average for
protein cereal. Maybe even- We’re about to have a visitor. Maybe a little bit even on the cheaper
side.
Like, some protein cereals are going to be probably $7-8. Oh, my baby. I have actually seen, in
CVS, I have seen boxes of cereal for over $10.
Okay. Like, regular cereal. Okay.
So that actually is pretty decent. CVS is just insane. I’d say the taste is really good.
I really like it. I’m a big cinnamon guy, so I like the taste of it. The macros are fine.
They’re okay, but it’s probably not that different from eating, like, regular oats in terms of, like,
protein, so… I think I’d put them in A. I agree. They’re not quite this S tier here. Yeah.
I’m in between B and A, so… Okay. I think we have to have a consensus for the chart. Give it a B.
I’m in between B and A. Oh, that’s tough.
It’s going to be tough to knock down Penny’s favorite cereal. Maybe we’ll have, like, another
one, and then we’ll know where- It’s hard to rank the first one when you don’t know what therest are. Yeah, it is.
You can rate them at the end. It is. Try the other one, maybe? The other coffee.
But you’ve got to give us the bucket, Giacomo. Oh, this is the dump bucket. That’s the dump
bucket.
Nice. And if this video gets 100,000 views, Giacomo will eat the dump bucket. So the next Kashi,
this is a different flavor.
Yes. Same protein composition. This is- Yeah, it’s just a different flavor.
Otherwise, it’s very similar. Yeah. And I think this is the only one that I got that we have two
flavors of, but most of these have multiple flavors.
Yeah, right. So it’s just the Kashi that we’re trying two flavors of. Yeah, we just did two because I
happen to have that other one here.
It looks a little different, though. I’m wary of things that are berry flavored. Mm-hmm.
Yeah. Sometimes they taste like a Flintstones vitamin. Yes.
We’ll see. I’m hoping it’s mostly just added berries. Yeah, there’s some berries in there.
I see some berries in there. Oh, you see actual berries in there? Okay. Oh my god.
It smells good. But again, it could be- Yeah, I see some fruit in there. The texture looks different
than the other one, right? It does.
This is what I was talking about with the little sticks that I was mentioning. Yeah, it’s a very
different texture. The berry fragrance is very overpowering, yes.
It is a strong berry note. So same thing, $4.99, and I think almost the exact same macros. So
190 calories, 4 fat, 36 carb, and 9 protein.
So I think it’s just got an extra gram of fat. It’s got a Froot Loop essence to it. Yeah.
That’s better than I expected it to be. Same. And they make other flavors like the peanut butter
one and the chocolate one.
Sometimes I get the peanut butter one. They have some non-vegan flavors, so that’s something
to be aware of. You should check the label.
What do you think? B. B? Yeah. Solid B. And I think if we put this B, we have to probably put the
other one A. I have yet to try this. I haven’t tried it either, but I have tried this one.
I’m a fan of Three Wishes, so I’m not the biggest mung fruit fan, I will say. But I do like the
Three Wishes. My favorite flavors are the cinnamon one and the chocolate one.The chocolate one, I think, is the best one. But the cinnamon one, I’d probably put number two.
Oh, I told you I didn’t like chocolate.
You’re like, I’m not going to buy it. They’re really not that different. Cinnamon and chocolate are
my top two.
Okay. I like how Jocko has a stick his hand in the toast, right? It’s like little… These are actual
Froot Loopy kind of things. They do have a fruity flavor.
I’ve tried most of the flavors. They have a fruit one. Is this the one that everybody on YouTube
gets sponsored by? No, Magic Spoon.
That’s right, Magic Spoon, which has no vegan flavors, right? No, it’s not vegan. Yeah, it’s all
whey protein. Sad.
This reminds me of some cereal from childhood, but I cannot place it. Not like Cinnamon Toast
Crunch, maybe? Nope, not even close. The texture always throws me off with all of the Three
Wishes.
Probably because they’re grain free. Let’s check this out. Oh, they are grain free.
Gluten free. That’s the part that’s tripping me out. Grain free, they are.
The ingredient list is super short. Chickpea, tapioca, pea protein, cane sugar, cinnamon flavors,
salt, monk fruit. All right, so 130 calories per serving.
Although the serving is 35 grams, which the last ones it’s like… The volume, though. The
volume, though. Because this is a cup, and I think Kashi was… It’s three quarter cup for a
serving, so… It’s funny how it shakes out.
Yeah, yeah. It’s not fortified in anything. 20 grams of carbs, three of which are fiber, eight
grams of protein, one and a half grams of fat.
I mean, those are really good macros. I would not eat a cup. I would eat two cups of this at
once.
I usually do. Yeah. And then it would be 16 grams of protein, which is better.
16 grams of protein, 260 calories. You’re looking at protein bar kind of macros, like builder bar
sort of thing. Do they make more than just cereal? Three Wishes? Not that I’m aware of.
Not that I’ve seen. But definitely it does have… Like, I’m not sensitive to Stevia at all, but this
does have quite the aftertaste. It does.
It does. Which you might like, or you might not. I take it back.
It says, try our grain-free granola and chewy bars. So, yes, they do make other products. As amatter of fact, how smart of them to put it on the box.
Yeah, I don’t know. Where do you think this would go? I think I’m the only one who’s not a fan
of the taste. You know, I would probably say… Oh, God.
I could be between B and A again, probably. I would probably say B. I’m going between B and A
on this one. All right.
I would probably say… You know, the macros are better, but I’m going to have to say B for this.
And I think the taste on this Kashi cinnamon was a lot better. And the texture, too.
Yes. But considering the ingredient list is so simple and it’s… It is. And it’s free.
Oh, how much would it cost? It’s probably like $9. $15.99. I’m just kidding. How much is this?
$6.99. Okay.
$7. I mean, that’s… $7 versus $5. That’s pretty spendy.
Okay. I’m going to say, because I think Giacomo is probably more A and Alice is more C, and
Dani and I are probably neutral, but B. So we’ll average it out and say B. Okay. I wish I could
figure out what cereal it reminds me of.
Me too. That reminds me of something from childhood. I can’t place it, nor can I. It’s exciting
me.
Honey Smacks, or if it’s not Honey Smacks. But it’s like one of the ones that I don’t even think
exists anymore. That’s what I like about it.
I’m good. Although I’m out of milk, so… All right. What’s next? Here’s the question though.
Milk first or cereal first? Cereal. The great debate. No, it’s not a debate.
It’s not much of a debate. Only psychopaths will agree on a debate. It’s more of a meme than
this is a debate.
Yes, the boss. Okay. 22 grams of protein.
What’s up, Wheaties? Buy cereal. Try this. This is the new kid on the block.
Yes. Yeah, I have tried this. That’s ridiculous.
Yeah, but how many calories to get 22 grams of protein? 270, according to… Okay, so that’s
where they messed… But I still like the fact that… Crazy though. Also, you can see how much
whole foods are in there as well. It’s not just about cereal.
Yeah, they got pumpkin seeds in there, I think. Yes. So that’s why I recommend this one so
much to people.Okay. So they have two flavors. I think they have one that has honey in it, and then this one has
maple.
Maple, almond, and I don’t know what the other flavor is. So I actually… I think that’s the only
thing. The one time I tried it, I found it at a job lot for like $2.
And I don’t know why. It was not expired. So I wasn’t… I did not have high hopes for it when I
brought it home.
And then I ended up eating that whole box inside of a week. And that’s too bad. I’ll never see it
again.
It smells very maple-y. It smells very breakfast cereal. Like you can see almonds, you can see
pumpkin seeds.
It’s flakes. It’s got a good crunch to it. Very crunchy, very fresh, aromatic.
Yes. On the back it says, full of greatness, as Nutrition says it is delicious. Maple, almond,
clustered flakes, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and maple syrup.
That’s pretty solid cereal. So in one serving, it’s a cup, 64 grams. So similar volume to what
we’ve been looking at before.
Oh, we should maybe touch on like where the protein is coming from. I think that would be
interesting to talk about as well. Those are… I think the Kashi is soy protein isolate, and Three
Wishes is pea protein.
And this is a mixture. It’s primarily vital wheat gluten, but there is soy protein isolate as well.
But that’s earlier in the ingredient list is vital wheat gluten.
So if you don’t know this, they list it by the amount in the box. So whatever’s first has more. 270
calories, 10 grams of fat, 28 grams of carbs, six of which are fiber, and 22 grams of protein.
Yes. Great macros. Yeah.
It’s a little higher in fat, but like you can literally see the nuts and seeds. Oh yeah. And the box
of Three Wishes was I think eight ounces.
The box was like eight or eight and a half ounces. This is 16 ounces of cereal. Yeah.
So you’re getting a lot more bang for your buck. And what was the price? I will say this is the
hardest one for me to find. $7.49. Yeah, that is… Pricey? Well, I mean, it’s still like half the price
if you compare it to the amount.
Like if you think about per gram of protein, you’re getting way more protein than this than you
are in any of those. So… Yeah. Really good.Yeah, that’s going S tier. Yeah. No doubt in my mind about that.
It doesn’t taste artificially sweetened at all. Because it’s not. It’s not.
You really wouldn’t know. Like you really wouldn’t. Six grams of fiber.
It is fortified in a lot of things, which I like in my cereals generally. Especially if you’re… It tastes
like a supplement, but I don’t mind it. And if you’re dealing with kids, like it’s a nice way to get
good stuff in them when they just want to eat Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
Sure, there you go. All right. Yeah.
S tier. Burden zero. Going in the S tier.
So this is the new bar, which everything will be measured by. Yep. I feel good about our rating
so far.
I think we’re pretty spot on. It’s going to be a hard one to follow, whatever comes after this. I
don’t even want to dump this one.
I’ll have to say this is the first one that I’ve wanted to reach, but like second and third helpings.
It’s supposed to save my appetite for the next one. And do you need it? Premier protein.
So… 20 grams of protein. If you don’t… This might be the most divisive. If you don’t know the
lore behind my relationship with this protein cereal, I, for my competition prep, leading up to
my first show, ate two servings of this four meals a day for my sole protein source for my entire
prep.
What? Yeah. Are you mad? I didn’t have it for an entire prep, but we had, me and Carson had
months straight of eating this. It was the easiest thing for me to meal prep going to the gym
and still like, because I was working a crazy schedule, how to get all my steps in, how to
whatever, do all the stuff I was doing.
It was the easiest thing for me to just bring cereal to the gym with me and just… Strawberries
and raspberries. Yep. Yeah.
Sometimes if I’m really feeling lazy, I will eat my breakfast twice a day. Yes. Everyone knows.
I think anyone that’s ever heard me talk… Okay. Smells like real strawberries. It has freeze dried
strawberries and raspberries in there.
I… And correct me if I’m wrong, you recommended this one and not the chocolate one. This
one is better than the chocolate. If you do not get the chocolate one, you will not like it.
Well, I mean, I had two servings of it every day for six months, so I guess I didn’t like it, but the
berry one is better. That’s right. Okay.180 calories. That’s pretty damn good. Five grams of fat, 14 grams of carbs, and 20 grams of
protein.
And easy to find, right? Easy to find. It’s basically a protein bar, like in terms of the macro. It’s
probably better than any one that I can think… Most that I can think of.
Before tasting it, I can already give you my review because I’ve had it a million times, but it’s a
little cardboardy, but… Right. It tastes like a protein thing. If you let it sit in the milk for a while,
it does soften up.
So if you wanted it to be not as… Crunchy, it will do that. It’s better than the chocolate one.
That’s the one I had tried.
And instantly hated it. This one at first, I was like, oh, I actually kind of like this. Oh, it’s so good.
Now, Deborah taught me the trick that if you want your cereal to be more soggy, throw it in the
microwave. There’s nothing you can do to mask that pea protein flavor to me. There’s nothing.
It has sort of like a dry kind of aftertaste after you chew it. You’re doing that thing again. I
know.
I just caught myself like, why? It’s the worst at describing food. He used to try to sell protein
powder and be like, it’s got this great chalky flavor. You love it.
It’s so chalky. Chalky. No, but it’s a little dry.
Did we mention the ingredients? Yes. This is the most like just eating straight up protein
powder out of any of them. Yeah.
But the macros are amazing. So first ingredient is wheat gluten, then wheat protein isolate,
which I would love to know what the difference between those two things is actually. Yeah.
Yeah. And then pea protein concentrate, almonds, yellow corn flour, dried strawberries, salt,
raspberries, strawberry juice, stevia. I will say, although it has stevia and usually I’m not a big
fan of stevia, the sweetness for me is kind of like in a good spot.
It’s not like overly sweet. It’s not bland. For me, based on the macros and how it tastes, I’m
going A tier.
But that’s my rating. I will let you. Everybody else seems to agree on this except me.
Also, price, I can find it on sale for like $3.50 a box, which is like you’re not going to beat that.
You’re not going to beat that price for the dollar for protein amount. I’m a big fan of mixing
things together too.
Yes. That’s a good strategy. I think I add the puffs to the Kashi one.So maybe if I added this with something that I liked more. It’s just for me, the sweetness is fine.
The flavor is actually fine.
It’s that pea protein aftertaste that I just- Interesting. I think I just OD’d on pea protein back in
the day. And I ate it in a little sneak bite of me.
Yeah. I have had non-fitness family members try this and they can’t get over just the protein
texture. Yeah.
I’m going to sit this one out. You guys know. If you’re not bodybuilding or looking for macros
and being like it’s worth the trade-off or whatever, I don’t classify this as cereal.
I classify it as something that I want to get to get in. The other ones I could be like, if this was a
regular cereal, I wouldn’t know the difference. This one, it feels even more different than the
Wheaties.
And it has like a little bit of a heavier, like it’s sweeter than the Wheaties. I mean, it is for our
audience though, who are probably similar to us. So I think we should rate it based on that and
not the general population trying it.
If you’re looking for a protein that is just like different day in and day out, like this, I have so
many clients, this is a go to no. What would you rate it, Dani? Well, I just tried it dry. Like I just
tried it and I did like it better that way than the milk.
I don’t know why. I’d probably give it a C because it’s like, it’s not inedible. I would eat this if
that was all that there was.
I would eat it, but I’d complain about it. Okay. Alice, Jagma? Checks out.
I’m going to give it an A. I’ve gotten used to it. Jagma, what would you have to rate it? Give it an
A. I give it an A as well. So three A’s.
We’re going to put it in A. But you know, if the macros were similar to the other ones, I’d be
putting it in B or C for sure. I think that’s what pushes it up to that for me. And the price and the
price.
The macros are awesome. It matters. Price is good.
The availability is great. So it’s really just the taste. Yeah.
Okay. Fair enough. I mean, if you’re not going to, if it’s, you’re not going to eat it, then yeah,
don’t, don’t buy it.
Cause there’s no point. Right. I mean, I bought it cause I saw the, I did what everybody was like,
holy crap.
And I came home and sobbed over it. Cheerios protein? I think this is new as well. Perhaps.I’ve not tried this one. But I love Cheerios. Yeah.
I think this is the only one so far. I have not tried. Eight grams in 150 calories.
Okay. Lower in fat compared to the others. I believe two and a half grams.
Okay. Yeah. Yep.
So I guess Kashi technically would have the worst macros out of anyone so far. Yeah. Which is
surprising.
Cause I don’t know. You said more, I suppose. Yeah, they did.
They, they like slightly. I mean, yeah. Yep.
And most people taste, price, convenience. The three things they choose and mostly taste it.
And every time you have cereal, you can boost the protein content with soy milk guys.
That’s a good tip. Are these smaller Cheerios than normal? They do look, I thought the same
thing as you were pouring them. I felt the same thing.
I haven’t had Cheerios in so long. They also had a strawberry flavor. So this is the cinnamon
flavor.
Cinnamon and berries seem to be very popular flavors for cereals. I’m the most excited for this.
I haven’t had cereal for Cheerios in so long.
So the ingredients are whole grain oats, sugar, pea protein. So it’s going to be a pea protein
one. But this doesn’t taste like pea protein to me.
It tastes like Cheerios. Tastes exactly like Cheerios. Cause number one ingredient is oats.
That’s why. I’m like trying to taste the pea protein and I can’t. Oh man, these are good.
Sooner or later I’ll have to try Cheerios. This is number one for taste for me. That’s way better
than I was expecting.
Same actually. I was, I was ready to be disappointed by this one. But how much could you really
talk about Cheerios? I, how common is this? Like how, I mean, Cheerios are obviously super
common, but how common is this? I think pretty, I think pretty common.
Yeah. How much was it Dracomo? This one’s $6.29. And it’s 11.2 ounces. So what’d you say?
$6.29. Okay.
Man, everything is just so expensive these days. Yeah. Now that I know all these prices, I’m like,
I always was like, oh, Premier Protein is so expensive, but it’s actually cheapest.
Oh yeah. It’s kind of shocking. I’m very impressed.I would. I like it. I think I’d give it an A. I would give it an A as well.
Even though the Magros like aren’t amazing. The taste and, and the taste is so good. Same.
Yeah. Yeah. I’m gonna go A. We can always also revise at the end based on where everything
else is.
So I’d put that in A. Of that. Why are you pouring like full bowls of cereal for yourself Dracomo?
Full of cereal there. Presentation.
That’s, that’s why I’m not dumping it. Myself. So we eat with the eyes first, as they say.
The bucket reminds me, it’s something in college with drinking that reminds me. I’m not, I can’t
recall what it is exactly. No, the, um, the, uh, oh God, you know what it was? We would, we
would play this game.
Some, I forget what some people would call it, but we’d put the death cup in the middle and the
death cup, you play like flip cup or like stack cup or one of these games. And the death cup, so
whoever was organizing the game would just put something like gross, like buying a couple of
drinks, you know, some beer, some liquor, some whatever else in there. And that would be in
the middle and the person at the end would have to, who lost it.
Yep. I do remember that actually. Yep.
Moving on. Special K. Special K. This is, this one is $3.99. Okay. This is, um.
I’m super scared of this one. 10 grams of protein and 210 calories. Super low in fat, one gram of
fat.
A little higher in carbs with 44. Fortified. And it’s got soy protein isolate.
Just try this stuff. Here, check it out. Let’s, let’s give it a shot.
So I, this was like the first protein cereal that I tried years ago. And I remember they had like
three flavors. They had this one, there was a cinnamon one.
The cinnamon one still is around. It’s really hard to find. And it has, I think more protein than
this one actually.
I think so. The cinnamon one does. Sawyer is big on these.
He loves these things. Cinnamon one is the reason I’m a little afraid of this. Talking about pea
protein tastes.
Oh my gosh. I don’t remember what it tastes like. 10 grams of protein for two.
Yeah, I guess. And five grams of fiber. I think they all have some amount of fiber becausethey’re made from, a lot of them are made from whole grains.
Hard pass. Nope. We’ll go on like, is this something, I hate to be mean, but like.
You can go D tier. Is there worse than a D here? No, it’s not worse than a D. It reminds me of, it
just tastes like cornflakes. Like plain cornflakes.
But like, I could eat this, but I would have to add other things to it. If you just want something
really bland and really plain, this is your cereal. If you wanted to bread your tofu, you would use
this.
Yeah, if you want to like chop up some cardboard and put in some milk, this is the cereal for
you. Sorry, but I’m gonna go with this one. It’s not good.
I go D. Maybe the other flavors are better. But that does not, I thought, I thought it was going
to be completely plain. Like, I thought the flavor was nothing, but it actually is called touch of
cinnamon.
And I, I disagree. It’s being generous. It’s pretty generous, but it’s easy to find.
It is better than the cinnamon one though, I gotta say. But I think this is the cinnamon one. No,
no, it’s, they’re like, oh, oh, oh, gotcha.
It’s still special K, but. Actually, no, for me. Nope.
Well, that’s too bad. The last actual cereal we tried was like. Oh, wait, no, Catalina.
Oh, okay. Oh, yeah, yeah. That’s the last like cereal.
I haven’t had this in years because it is expensive. I was, so the Celtics are playing the Knicks
right now in the playoffs and the Knicks point guard. Actually, funny story.
Someone I used to work with at the last job that I had with Sawyer. Uh, she was the personal
nutritionist for this guy, Jalen Brunson, who’s like the star for the Knicks and he’s sponsored by
Catalina Crunch because I was, I was looking something up about him last night and I saw that.
So apparently they sponsor pro athletes.
So have you tried this at all? Never had those stuff. It smells really good. I don’t think I’ve had
any of that.
When they first came out. Giacomo’s rearing to go on this one. Whoa, it smells like honey.
Yeah. It’s not real honey. Yeah.
When it first came out, they had a lot of, um, they must’ve had a really big marketing budget.
Um, yeah. That smells a lot like golden grams.Yeah. The smell is intense. This is fucking a lot of golden grams.
This is a race for points if you haven’t even tried it yet. Okay. So how much did it cost? I can’t
tell.
It just says minus $1 on the proceed. Oh, that’s under, because it was on sale. So $7.49. Okay.
$7.49. It’s nine ounces. So even though it looks a lot smaller, it’s actually more food than the
Three Wishes, which is interesting. Um, also a 36 gram serving though.
That’s a puny little serving. Oh, it’s, you ever actually tried to pour a serving on Catalina Crunch?
It’s depressing. Yeah.
It does taste really good though. Sometimes I’ll like, if I make like a protein ice cream or like a
smoothie or something, I’ll mix it into that. Like, I think it’s really good as like a topping or a mix
in.
I think it tastes exactly like the Three Wishes. No, this tastes worse than the Three Wishes. I’m
not, I’m not a fan of it.
I had high hopes. I had really high hopes. Nope.
Yeah. It looks good. It smells good.
It’s letting me down. Yeah. Oh, it’s, yeah, it’s got that aftertaste.
It’s got the pea protein taste, which makes sense because that is the… It does. So the first
ingredient is Catalina flour, which is a blend of pea protein, potato fiber, corn fiber, chicory root
fiber, and guar gum. Oh, the chicory root.
Bad decision. And then it has both stevia and monk fruit. So if you hate either of those, you’re
probably out.
It’s way too sweet. Way too much of both of them. No, but it’s the pea protein for me.
No, no, no, no. That goes to D. Honestly, I’m going, I’m going D with it too. It’s going to be a hot
take.
A lot of people are going to be upset by that, but it’s… I’m so disappointed. I’ll go with D on it
also. It’s a D. Yeah.
It’s a D. The macros are the only redeeming quality, which are, which are redeeming, which is, I
think they’re, they’re pretty good. But yeah, 14 carb to 11 protein is very good. But it tried so
hard in so many ways.
I could almost feel bad. No, no. This tastes different than when I… No, I’m very, I’m very, I’m,
I’m pissed off, honestly. So if you go back and watch my, um, this is years old. I made a St. Patrick’s Day recipe that was
like a Bailey’s chocolate cheesecake for St. Patrick’s Day. Oh, that sounds good.
And I used the chocolate Catalina Crunch as the crust and it came out awesome. But I mean, it
was also covered in cream cheese, sugar, and Bailey’s. Had a lot of things during it.
How about that? Cool. The last two cereals we tried both go D. Okay. This is granola.
Yeah. So we have two granolas. We have, this is the Wegman’s.
So this is going to be the hardest to find if you don’t have a Wegman’s near you, obviously. It’s a
Wegman’s store brand high protein. Wegman’s has their, a lot of like branded stuff by them.
I really like Wegman’s store brand. Vanilla almond. Like they have their own, like, I think they
have their own like vegan cheese.
They have their own shakable, like vegan cheese stuff. Like, yeah. Chakma, that’s enough.
You don’t need a full bowl. I need a full bowl. My mom loves this stuff.
My sister too. So granola is a lot harder to gauge with macros because it’s so much more dense.
Usually with nuts and seeds.
It usually needs some kind of oil to kind of get it to crisp up when you cook it. I feel like it looks
kind of like the ladies. As is all the whole fresh stuff you can, yeah, nut seeds and fruit and
whatever.
Yeah. And vanilla flavor. I just want to look at it because I don’t think I have ever bought a
protein granola ever because granola is just something I usually pass on because I could eat so
much of it so quickly.
So rolled oats, cane sugar, pea protein crisps, wheat gluten, almonds, canola oil, brown rice
syrup, pumpkin seeds, bean blend. Interesting. So 260 calories for 13 grams of protein.
That seems around where a lot of these fell. I don’t have a single complaint about it. It’s pretty
decent.
I mean, it’s not like insanely good, but it’s better than average. I’m not tasting any pea protein. I
like the taste a lot.
They also have like a cinnamon walnut flavor. This is vanilla almond and they have a chocolate
coconut flavor. I do like this one.
Yeah. I actually can taste the pea protein, but it’s still very good, which is hard to do for me. So
I’m on the fence between a B and an A. I would go B for me.
I would go B too. Yeah, I think B. Yeah, that’s good. I mean, I’m finishing it, so that’s gotta begood.
It’s average. Yeah. You’re not going to take it home to your family, but you might take it on a
couple of days.
Yeah. Yeah. Jack was like, we’re doing what? He was with me.
I can speak on this granola, but I would say A for me. Yeah, I think I might be leaning towards A
actually. How much was it? I mean, it’s Wegman’s brand.
It’s got to be pretty cheap. You would think. I do think.
$3.99. Yeah. A. Yes. Even though it’s not accessible to me at all because… I think if you consider
it in the context of other granolas, then I would probably say A, and I think that’s probably the
most fair way to assess it.
So I’m okay with putting it in A. That was the first one we’ve had that’s vanilla flavored too,
which I liked. Anything vanilla flavored is 31 points for me. No.
All right. This one I’ve seen everywhere and never tried. So they had a chocolate flavor and a
peanut butter flavor.
I had the chocolate one a lot in prep. Okay. That’s good.
It’s a good sign. If you were able to have a lot of any granola in prep, that’s a good sign for its
macros. Well, you know, you got to choose carbs that are worth it for you.
And this one was worth it. Yeah. Especially if I was on a road trip.
This was a go-to. Okay. That road trip driving to competition, if that counts.
120 calories a serving, 17 grams of carbs and five grams of protein. It’s interesting. They
actually have two different categories and they have one is snack and one is bowl, which I
haven’t seen before on other things.
So snack, third of a cup, 30 grams, 120 calories, five grams of protein. But if we’re comparing it
to kind of more what we have been doing, two thirds of a cup, 260 calories, eight grams of fat.
Chocolate is better.
So not much fiber, similar protein. So a little lower protein than the Lawson we tried. It’s pretty
similar macros to the Wegmans one, just a little bit less protein.
Has that peanut butter flavor going for it? It is. I’m sorry. It’s peanut butter flavored.
Oats, cane sugar, peanut butter. So the protein component doesn’t come until the fourth
ingredient, which is soy protein isolate, brown rice, tapioca. Any other… Are you telling me
peanuts aren’t a protein source? Maybe that’s a separate video.No, is it me? Actually, I really like it. I flip the Wegmans one around again. 260, 13, 14, 9, 33, 13,
8, 37, 10.
That is better macros. And I do, I kind of think that one tastes better also. Yeah, me too.
Me. Yeah, I would say. Oh, maybe even C actually.
Oh, I don’t know about C. C is offensive. I feel like the Wegmans one and that one are pretty
similar in my mind. Okay.
All right. We can go B. My standards have been raised. So I think we’re now onto the oatmeals
now.
Oh, okay. So we have the overnight oats. We have the protein.
We could do the overnight oats one right now, the pourable one. The pourable one? Yeah.
That’s in the bottle, which, oh, I’ve never seen.
Yeah. Cereal in a bottle. Oats overnight shake cereal in a bottle.
And this is one full serving size, but you get a bottle. It came dry and I added water up to a line
and shook it and stuck it in the fridge. The first thing that comes to mind for me is for travel.
These are probably really great. 15 grams. I am, I am strongly skeptical of this right now.
Yeah, I’m a little scared. That, that looks like. Making me feel like medicine is coming.
Or just a protein shake. When you were a child, I mean, like parents get out the jar, the bottle of
like liquid medicines, like feeling like you’re getting sicker. Yeah.
I’m not sure I feel like that texture. Well, if you had less water, it would probably be more. You
know, this is scary.
It depends if you want to shake or you want. 220 calories, 32 carb, five fat, 15 protein. So that is
good macros.
The P the protein source is pea protein. This is, I think they had a couple of different flavors of
this one. I like the maple a lot.
Oh, that doesn’t taste. Oh, there’s a little bit at the end, but that’s manageable with the pea
protein. Yeah.
I thought I was going to despise it, but for like, just add. And I think it only needed to be in the
fridge for like 15 minutes or something. That’s not bad.
It says we recommend four hours. Well, it was in there for an hour and it’s fine. So maybe it
would thicken up a little more overnight.I like it. Yeah, that’s better. That’s better than I expected.
I can’t read it because I can’t. My initial reaction is to give it a B. I would say B. I’ll go with B.
Okay. If I was traveling and this was on a shelf, I still don’t think I’d buy it.
I wouldn’t buy it either. I’m honestly, I’m leaning closer towards a C. Okay, big boy. All right.
I’m okay with it. We’ll split the difference and we’ll call it C. I’m okay. I also don’t think we’ve put
anything in C yet.
So we got something in there. Doing 10 grams, 190 calories. Yes.
So the only ingredient for these are oats. So, but yet they have more protein. So Alice, would
you like to describe what you and Carson’s figured out slash your theory? I can’t remember all
the details, but we have, we ate this at home pretty regularly and it’s a little bit of a tougher
texture for oats, but otherwise it’s just like oats.
It is legitimately oats. We’re pretty sure that it’s like cross planted with something. So Giacomo,
what are the macros and the one ingredient if you could read that? Whole grain oat flakes.
Okay. So I just cooked it just according to the directions, just water and a tiny pinch of salt. The
main thing I’m most curious to see is like texture and taste.
Does it taste like regular oats? 10 protein, 4 fat, 32 carb. This is on the stove. You would make it
in a microwave.
So I thought it was a little firmer. Water, just plain water. I probably should have cooked it
longer, but I just did exactly what the direction said.
It’s really creamy for this water. Yeah. Yeah.
I think it’s, I mean, obviously it’s got no flavor because it’s just oats. But I would rate it equal to
regular oats. Yeah.
I don’t think we can really rate this for today, but it needs to be, I guess we could rate it. That’s
impressive. I actually like the taste.
It’s kind of like more, I don’t know, nuttier almost. So regular oats are for 40 grams. This is a 48
gram serving, not a 40 gram serving.
So for 40 grams, they’re usually 150 calories, 3 grams of fat, 27 grams of carbs and 5 grams of
protein. There’s a slightly bigger serving. So I thought that was their trick, right? I thought they
just made the serving size bigger, but then when I divided it out, I was like, no, actually it is still
a little bit higher.
So yeah, I think, see, this, I think would be really good for traveling. Yes. Because you could just
cook it in the microwave.I actually really like the texture too. Yeah. The only reason we don’t buy it is because it’s more
expensive than regular oats.
Regular oats, sorry. How much is it compared to? Yeah, because regular oats are dirt cheap.
Dirt cheap, yes.
$7.99 for the smaller bag. Damn. Two pounds of oats.
And how much do you normally pay for the oats that we get at Market Basket? Probably half
that. Three bucks? Even less. And it’s bigger.
Yeah, it’s like a canister. Is it worth it for a couple grams? Probably three. I know it looks like it’s
twice as much, but it is a bigger serving.
Is it worth it for like three grams at home? No. I think probably for the price, I don’t think worth
it. But if you really love oats and your macros are really tight, it could be worth spending the
extra money.
So I’m going to prep, look at as much protein as possible. Yeah, exactly. Um, so how are we
deciding how to rate this? I don’t know.
Based on like what it was trying to accomplish? I got B. You can’t put it A. I don’t know. Putting
it C or D seems like there was something wrong with it. Yeah, it’s got to be B. B is like the most
neutral.
It’s middle tier. I’m going to grade it right in the middle. Middle of the road.
They’re good. They’re calling it what it is. Yeah.
It’s a very interesting product. Like it’s an interesting feat. Yeah.
Okay, and then we have one more. Almond flavor. Okay, so flax and chia.
Maple almond is a popular whole flavor. I don’t mind it. I just made them according to the
direction.
So I have it cold and hot. All right. Want to try them both ways? Yeah, I think so.
Let’s put some here. We’ll do cold on this side of everything. Oat protein.
So that’s new. I’m going to put hot on the other side. Well, it’s probably warm at this point.
Don’t have them touch. This is more like an oat cake. Right.
So these are different. No, they’re the same. One is cold and one is hot.
The one you’re serving right now is hot. Well, it’s probably warm. Is there fruit in here? Is that
what I’m seeing? Or is that something else? Are those almonds? Can I look at it? Chocomint?Yeah, totally.
Here you go. Flax and chia. 36 carb, 11 protein, 6 fat for 240 calories.
I like it. Yeah, it’s pretty good. Not a fan.
No. The flax is a bit overpowering, but I like the texture. To me, it tastes more like oats.
If you do have a flax issue, then no one’s going to… Those people are not going to like this. But
if you don’t mind flax, I think you’re going to love it. Yeah, I agree.
I like flax. What don’t you like about it, Ben? I like flax, but something about the texture to me is
off-putting. I don’t know what it is.
It’s funny. I actually like the texture. Yeah, I really like it.
Yeah. I thought this was going to suck. That was the hot one.
So maybe I like the cold better. Wow, that’s way better than I expected. I don’t mind it.
So it says, what is upcycled oat protein? Our oat protein is a nutrient-dense flour rich in protein
and fiber that comes from the leftovers from oat milk production. Did you guys already read
this while I was getting there? So it also prevents food waste and it’s certified B-Corp, which is
very hard to get. Oh, I’m sold.
What is this? I’ve never seen it or heard of it. Okay, I like the cold one a lot better. So I’m with it.
How much was it? That was $6.99. Standard for all the other stuff. It is expensive for something
that’s eight servings. But, you know, almonds, flax.
It’s like just the right. It’s not too sweet. Yeah.
It doesn’t taste fake sweet at all. This does not taste like there is protein powder in it at all.
Yeah, I’m a fan.
If I see this, I will buy it. That’s how much I like it. Okay.
I’m going to put that in the S tier. I think I’m with you on that one. S tier? S tier.
That’s heinous. That’s heinous. Order in the court.
I will not allow this. I said A. I’m going A. I’m going A. It’s as good as the Wheaties, you’re
saying? I think so. I think it is.
My natural inclination is to choose the opposite of Danny. So I’m saying the same. Okay.
That’s saying something. We can split the difference and put it in A. No, there’s no difference.
Alice and I are both A. You guys are both S. So.It is true. We’re upsetting Ben. 11 grams of protein for 36 grams of carbs.
11 grams of protein for 240 calories. The other one is 22 grams. It’s double the protein.
We’ll do A. But for oatmeal. Yeah, yeah. It has a lot of things going for it.
It has a lot of things going for it. That’s pretty much like pre-made protes for you. Okay.
So the only thing we put in the S tier was, I mean recapping now, is the Wheaties. And this,
we’re going to say this would be like a close second to the Wheaties. And then in the A tier, we
had the Cheerios.
I’m so impressed right now. I know. Those were really, the Cheerios were really good.
The cinnamon flavor for the Kashi was in the A tier as well. And then I think we put the
Wegmans protein granola in the A tier. Yes, yes.
And then for B tier, we had the Kashi other flavor, the berry flavor. We had, I think the Kind
granola. As C? I thought we had it as B. Because we get the Wegmans A. Okay.
We had to put something in C, remember? There was something. Yeah, we said the overnight
oats were C. So I think the Kind protein granola was in B. The Bob’s protein oats were B. And
then C was the overnight oats. And then in the D tier, we put Catalina Crunch in the B special
case.
It wanted to be so good. Three Wishes was in C actually as well. So that would be two that we
put in C tier.
All right. So what do we, what do you think? I cannot believe you were right. Wait, did we, did
we Three Wishes the only one I’m not sure on? But I think with C for Three Wishes.
Okay. Personally. B or C. I think we actually, initially we had said B. And I was breaking it down.
But the taste, yeah, it’s a little bit of a, I don’t know. It has such a… The texture is so strange.
What do you think? I think that’s the only one we’re maybe undecided.
The Three Wishes? Yeah. It’s one of those like, it’s not real food type of tastes for me. Yeah.
But it makes you feel like a kid because it tastes like a kid’s cereal. No, kids cereals have to have
good texture. Kids would not eat that.
Fair. You make a good point. Because it’s the grain-free.
We’ll say C. I think for the price for… I think if you got a flavor you really liked, it could be a B
probably. But the texture, like Alice said, is a little, it’s different because it’s grain-free cereal. So
I’ve tried the unflavored and the vanilla.I haven’t tried the cinnamon yet. But I’m all just like… The chocolate one might be one to try if
you’ve tried the other flavors. I like that one.
I’m trying to think if anybody was just like BSing on their label where it said protein, but it
wasn’t really… In the post-premier one, the premier protein cereal was an A. So that was also
controversial. So you’re learning here, a lot of it comes down to personal preference. So… I hate
Stevia.
They’ll hate whatever we said because I had Stevia earlier. Yep, exactly. But yeah, the maple for
sure.
So Wheaties is winning, is our winner for the protein cereal challenge. So did we miss any? Let
us know if we missed your favorite protein cereal. I’m sure we did.
I’m sure there’s one. I can think of some, but you need to comment it. Otherwise, we’re not
going to try it.
But if you comment all the ones that we didn’t try, maybe we can make a part two to this and
try those out. Wow. Some encouragement.
If there’s anything else, like if there’s another category of food you would like to get our
thoughts on, let us know. Yeah, you want us to try other products? Like we could do a yogurt
one, a cheese one, a pasta, the protein pastas. That’s a good one.
That’s another alternative. So yeah, let us know any ideas you have. We can definitely make
some more tier lists.
And if you’re looking for any kind of one-on-one coaching, that’s what we do. That’s what we’ve
been doing since 2008. And we’ll leave the link down below to fill out an assessment to see if
that could work.
Do you get a meal plan with 10 different kinds of breakfast and cereals? Only if you work with
me. The protein cereal guy. Those are all my meal plans.
It’s all like different kinds of protein cereal. If you like the video, don’t forget to like the video,
subscribe, hit the bell, all the things we’re supposed to tell you to do at the end of a YouTube
video. And we will talk to you soon.
Bye everyone. That was really fun. That was fun.
I’m glad I didn’t eat lunch though.
